My GNU/Linux journey, part 1: Introduction

Hello and welcome back to my humble blog!

It has been a while (more like years, almost 3!), but here we are. This blog has been through a lot, mostly through so many comebacks and then hiatuses, again and again, but I always end up coming back and having new plans for it.

However, this time is, hopefully, different. The reason being me switching completely to FOSS (Free* and Open Source Software), ideologically and practically, where applicable.

Even though I have been a GNU/Linux user since 2010, starting with Ubuntu 10.04 (I am old ^^”), I have never really understood what GNU/Linux is, why it exists and what it stands for. That is, until a little over a year ago, when I stumbled on one of my all time favorite content creators and GNU/Linux youtuber, DistroTube.

The goal of this mini series, which I have been planning to write for a while now, is to share my journey of leaving propriatry programs/mindset and fully becoming a GNU/Linux user and a FOSS advocate. By sharing it, I hope to spread the message and meaning of FOSS in general and help those who want to, potentially, switch to GNU/Linux from Windows or Mac. I would also like to share what I’ve learned so far, everything from new GNU/Linux lingo, to programming, to using the actual OS and even to the somewhat nerdy advanced stuff. I have a lot to share! :D.

This will be all for now, I want this to be short and sweet, because what’s coming is very interesting and long for sure.

For all my lovely followers, for years now, thank you for your constant support, and I hope you also check this out, even if you’re not a techie kind of person, you might find something for you in here.

As always, questions and suggestions are always welcome and much appreciated! ^_^

Until the next part,

*Free as in freedom or libre not the cost ‘gratis’, because a FOSS project might be either gratis or paid, the importance is not in the price. More on this in the next part.

My book-related blog posts will be posted on this blog, in the future.

Hello lovelies~

After much thought, and after I lost most content due to unforeseen issues, I decided that my main blog – this blog, will be home to all my future content, whether it be tech-related, book-related, or just general blog posts; they’ll all be here.

This helps me a lot in managing one blog for all content and lets me focus on writing and doing what I do best, it also helps you, the reader, in finding and getting everything from one place (instead of having to be following two separate blogs, one of which isn’t updated as often..etc).

I’ve already announced the decision on my book blog, since many people loved it.

I really hope you’ll continue enjoying my book-related content here.

Thank you so much for all the support, encouragement and lovely messages.

I hope you have a great week/weekend and that you’re staying safe~

My favorite things to do in quarantine.

Hello sunshines~

Hope you are staying safe and holding up well during these tough times.

Everyone is trying their best to cope with it, finding new hobbies, new ways to do things, fun activities to spend time doing online with friends and family.

In this blog post, I’m going to share a few of my favorite things (new and old alike) to do during quarantine, some help keep me educated/informed, some I enjoy doing for pure fun, and some are just my favorite things to do in general and which I found time for in quarantine.

So read along for a few of my favorite things to do lately, maybe you can find something here to try out for yourself or with friends and family! 😊

Checking in with you guys.

Hello sweets!

Sorry for the long disappearance, I had so many occasions to come up here and write, I had so many blog posts prepared (still prepared), but I did not put them up.

The reason why I was away from blogging is because I lost motivation and felt that after being away for so long, no one would want to read what I write anymore. But I forgot one important thing.

The reason why my blog was loved to begin with in/from 2008 to 2012-ish, is because I did it because I loved it, because I put my heart and soul into it and didn’t care about anything else, as long as I tried my best and kept the love and support and the criticism in mind, I kept going for it.

Some things happened yes, bad things from 2013 till now, but life shouldn’t stop and will not stop at anything. and we tend to forget how to be ourselves and to love the things that truly matter to as like before. No one should feel like this or like they should give up on what they love doing because of any exterior reason.

So, after thinking it over and over for the past couple of months, I decided to give it another try, be me, write about the things I love, maybe a couple more guides, the things/apps/services I tried and what I think of them. I’m dedicating my full time into this, because I want to see the potential I have and how far I can grow it and go with it. This is what I love doing and what I want to dedicate my time to, and I want to make it work.

I genuinely hope this time I’ll stick around for much longer, and that you guys will stick around and be patient with me as I go through this new chapter of my life ^-^.

If you have any advice/request/questions, don’t hesitate to leave them, as always <3.

I’ll see you in the next post,

February/March favorites: Journaling, quotes and books!

Hello guys!

This favorites blog post will be the combination of the last two months’ (This month’s favorites will be coming soon.), since I didn’t have time to really do anything besides getting better (anxiety+ulcer are not a good combination…) and trying to make some advancements with my thesis (which is a serious stress source for me).

This time, we’ll have a bit of a change with books, some nice music, quotes and musicals!I want to say thank you, to everyone who commented on the last post, those who sent me private DMs on Instagram/Twitter (they were quite a few to my surprise!) and for the retweets and shares. Your positive and amazing feedback was such a big help for me to continue to do what I love and what I’ve always loved doing all along 😃 .

Keep the suggestions coming! ☺
